Tana Toraja is located in South Sulawesi (Celebes), Indonesia. By its cool climate, unique culture, and beautiful nature, Tana Toraja could be the magnetic key to attract many tourists. Most of people begin to be curious about Torajan’s odd traditions which you would never find in any other place. These are some ancient Torajan’s traditions:
1. “Rambu Solo” Funeral Ceremony

Rambu Solo is a traditional funeral ceremony which is believed as a must tradition for sending the soul of death before they have eternity. Torajan also called it the perfection of death. It would need at least ten days to conduct the ceremony. During these ten days, Torajan will have much entertainment, feasting, and attractions. They will sacrifice buffalos and pigs to indicate the repayment for gifts. The buffalos which are going to be sacrificed must be squealed before.
The top moment of the ceremony is held on a ritual yard. There would be a lot of rites, such as corpse wrapping procession, giving some ornaments on the coffin, and sending the corpse to the funeral.
2. Ma’nene Tradition

In this tradition, Torajan clean the corpse of their relative and family. Usually held once in 3 years, the Ma’nene is aimed to commemorate Torajan’s ancestor. They will take the corpse out from its coffin, before they clean the body of the corpse and change its dress with the new one. This tradition is usually held by Baruppu people, the inhabitant of hinterland Toraja.
They will pull out the coffin from the grave yard. Some other people will utter some prayers in ancient Toraja language. After the corpse finished being cleaned, the corpse will be stood. The corpse could be stood or even walked. It is believed it could happen in spite of the prayers.
3. Londa

Londa is the Torajan ancestors’ grave yard complex. Located on the bank of mountain, that is so closed to mountain range, made the weather feels like really cool. In along bank of mountain, there are caves and holes as the form of grave yard. You will find a lot of coffins with some ornaments and decorations which contain corpse inside of it. They arrange the corpse based on the family genealogy.
